Local Bank Continues To Support the Community
A $2,500 Sierra Grant awarded to the Porterville Historical Museum by Bank of the Sierra will fund the installation of new, more secure ramps, making the museum handicap accessible. Until now, the museum has not been able to afford the necessary construction to bring the facilities into compliance with ADA guidelines. This museum preserves and displays artifacts from Southern Tulare County and makes them available for view by the public as well as focusing on tours by local school students.
The Porterville Life Skills Center is looking to the community to build a scholarship fund for low income students. Bank of the Sierra has announced that it will contribute to the fund through the Sierra Grant Program. All of the funds will go directly toward scholarships. Currently, only 10% of participants are able to pay for the program on their own. The Porterville Life Skills Center offers curriculum designed to educate individuals and equip them with tools to increase the quality of their lives and enrich any relationship, striving to break the cycle of dysfunction. Within the next five years, the center plans to partner with the court system to provide classes to mandated clients. As always, Life Skills is available to anyone with the desire and need for the services offered at the center.
Bank of the Sierra is also pleased to announce a $3,000 Sierra Grant awarded to Las Madrinas Guild, to help fund the “Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Endowment” at the Children’s Hospital of Central California. The endowment will ensure the hospital’s Child Advocacy Program continues for years to come. Las Madrinas Guild is on a mission to raise $1 million to initially fund the endowment.
“The Child Advocacy Program provides a priceless service. Bank of the Sierra is proud to make a contribution to a program dedicated to treating and preventing child abuse,” stated James C. Holly, President and CEO of Bank of Sierra. |
