Target, which has two stores in Visalia and one each in Tulare and Porterville, reported its storewide sales increased 0.4% in the first quarter over the same quarter of 2008, but said those sales were up due to new store openings. When compared to comparable store sales, they were off 3.7 percent. The company also reported net earnings of $522 million for the first quarter, compared with $602 million in the first quarter of 2008.
