New Subway at Riverwalk Marketplace opens Thursday

Another Subway - Porterville's fifth - opens Thursday.
The location, at the Riverwalk Marketplace, will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Owner Avtar Singh Basra has a monopoly on Porterville Subways, with stores at North Main Street, West Henderson Avenue and Highway 190. It has been seven years since he first considered opening the newest spot off South Jaye Street and West Vandalia Avenue. "It feels good," he said.
Basra hosted a VIP party with free food and drinks Wednesday evening, welcoming city leaders and members from the Chamber of Commerce.
The store will boost the economy, provide jobs to 15 local people and makes access to Subway sandwiches easier, Basra said.
"I can't say this is the last one," he said.
