The City of Porterville and the Porterville Chamber of Commerce have joined together to announce the launch of the citywide Customer Shopping Appreciation Program, the new Shop Porterville First campaign. For six months, the program will take advantage of the upcoming holiday sales season. The Shop Porterville First campaign is designed to increase foot traffic and encourage area residents and business owners to shop locally for products, enjoy local restaurants and use local services before going out of town.
Vallarta Market, which is coming to Visalia's Orchard Park Shopping Center, should open its store in Porterville, at Olive Avenue and Plano Street, in October. Renovation of the old Save Mart Supermarket that has been vacant for more than a decade is underway.
Strong interest is being shown in the old Porterville Mervyn's Store, says City Manager John Lollis. He said talks are ongoing between with city and a few prospects that were developed at the International Convention of Shopping Centers in Las Vegas in March.
