The hubbub of the holiday hsopping season didn't cease Christmas Day - many Porterville area residents will follow up their gifting by searching today for local, post-holiday deals. Many stores plan to discount merchandise in an effort to extend the season's sales and flush out Christmas-specific items. Local business owners report steady sales this season, notwithstanding the economy, with some gladdened by local residents making an effort to keep their Christmas dollars in Porterville. Pam Hughe, owner of Country Pleasures, said she traditionally gets a post-Christmas rush. "Shoppers always look for those bargains," she said. Hughes said she will have discounts on more than half the items in her store - some up to 65 percent. Popular itmes at Country Pleasures that will be on sale, Hughes said, include collectibles such as Boyds Bears and Dreamsicle figurines. Some businesses, like Mitchell's Jewelers, will extend their holiday sales through the New Year holiday as well. Janelle Mitchell said the store will also offer a post-Christmas discount of 25 percent off of any ring re-sizing. Fashion Network owner Sandy Powell said she is hoping for a similar post-Christmas boost like she experienced last year. Items such as party dresses, jackets and sweaters - "cocktail wear" - will be on sale. Powell said she "very grateful" for how well the holiday season has gone so far. Clothing store Anchor Blue will offer selected styles of jeans and T-shirts for sale prices $19.99 and $5.99 respectively after Christmas. Porterville Target Manager Paul Tuttle said he expects many post-Christmas deal seekers to head to the electronics, video and music sections after the holiday clutching gifts cards. The Target store will be among the stores in Porterville offering Christmas merchandise at rock bottom prices this weekend. Other businesses doing the same include Town and Country Drug and CVS.
